What is hearing loss?
Hearing loss is a reduction in the ability to perceive sound and understand speech. It may be conductive, sensorineural or mixed.
Main types
Conductive
Related to the outer or middle ear, such as wax, infection, perforation or fluid behind the eardrum.
Sensorineural
Related to the cochlea or auditory nerve and often rehabilitated with hearing aids.
Mixed
A combination of conductive and sensorineural components.
Diagnosis
We perform key hearing tests including audiometry, tympanometry, otoacoustic emissions and ABR/BERA when indicated.
When is a hearing aid recommended?
When hearing loss affects communication and the audiogram shows that amplification can improve speech understanding.
